Newton, Helen Florence

Helen Florence Newton was born in Woodbridge, Connecticut in 1878 and studied under Charles Hawthorne and Harry Leith-Ross. In the early 1920s she relocated to California and taught at the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Palo Alto and studied at the University of California at Santa Barbara from 1934 to 1936.

Newton was known for landscape and seascape paintings and was a member of the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, the Laguna Beach Art Association and the Santa Barbara Art Association. She died in Woodbridge in 1970.
