DESCRIPTION
Lovell, Maine was the location of Volk family’s beloved summer retreat, Hewn Oaks. After many years of teaching at institutions in New York and Minnesota, and having achieved success and acclaim with his painting, Volk relished his time in nature. He spent his years at Hewn Oaks (1898-1906) at his easel, documenting the surrounding woods and Lake Kezar.
